Contraception - Copper Coil. humdrummer Posts: 4,482. Forum Member Anyway, I was thinking of the copper coil so that I remain hormone free - that in itself is very appealing, thing is almost all of my research has thrown up proper horror stories about it. From insertion - pain, trauma, throwing up, passing out, etc. The larger the tubing, the easier to avoid sudden flashing to steam. Keep the coil relatively short (use two coils in parallel if you need more heat extraction) and arrange the coil(s) and reservoir for gravity circulation - short piping runs will allow this to be more effective. I can't give exact numbers for tubing lengths.
